Tags and WiPs

It seems like forever since I have done a WIP Wednesday but I'm going to link up today!  Christmas presents in progress and finally some advances have been made on the September quilt for Do.Good Stitches.  I'll have more about that one another time.  But it is almost done!

Here are my new tags for the Christmas Tag Along hosted by Pretty by Hand and NanaCompany.  These little pretties are so fun to make!  And have you had a look at the Flickr group?  So much inspiration!

One of the best parts is that these have all been made with objects I have already!  No purchase necessary.  I've a surplus of supplies and so many ideas for these littles.  It is going to be hard to choose which to make next.  Have a good week and enjoy this beautiful season!

Catching up with some of my favorite blogs and I found that two of them are collaborating in a Christmas Tag-A-long!  Isn't it wonderful!?  Nanacompany and PrettyByHand are the hosts and they always make the cutest, sweetest little things, don't you think?  I had to join in on the fun.  And besides, my little tree needed its yearly dose of new ornaments.

Linking to the Flickr group for fun and to keep up on all the pretty little tags that others are making!

Enjoy the Christmas season and God Bless!

Pretty As A Function

Happy Monday!  I'm happy to have a simple little sewing project finished up to show you today!  And I'll get to link up to a couple of my favorite linky parties as well...{Sew} Modern Monday and Fabric Tuesday!

Fresh Poppy Design

I cant wait to see what sewing is going on and maybe get more ideas and inspiration for Christmas projects!

Here's what I've come up with so far.  I finally got around to making the kitchen hand towels that I've been dreaming up for several months now.  These are kind of a combination of features I've seen on kitchen towels popping up around the internet...probably on Pinterest.

I loved the ruffles I'd seen and I liked the idea of having a loop on the top to attach to the oven door handle so I combined them into these little ruffly hand towels.  Then I just added matching hot pad to make it a nice kitchen gift.

I made three sets using the Vintage Modern layer cake with quite a bit of fabric left over for more.  And I made one for Fall/Thanksgiving with some fall fabrics from JoAnns.

Next up will be a couple of sets made with some Christmas fabrics.  I know these may not be the most useful item in the kitchen.  Maybe the ruffles are not appropriate for cleaning spills and drying dishes but they are pretty, I think.  And pretty is a function, too, isnt it?

So now I think I will be making a couple sets of these using some Christmas fabrics.  I'm excited to get to those ones but first I have a few quilt projects to work on and a certain pirate costume that is going to demand my attention.  Oh, and speaking of Christmas I'm going to link up also to the Handcrafted Holiday group over on Flickr.  I'm sure there will be lots of ideas for other holiday projects to be had!  How is your holiday sewing coming along?

God bless and have a good week!

WIP Wednesday

Hello!  Welcome to another installment of WiP Wednesday!  It is late in the day here, no practice tonight and the weather is turning a bit chilly.  What better to do on a night such as this than take inventory of my sewing projects?  Here we go:

This area has had a bit of an explosion as I now have four quilts started!  Yikes!
1.  Quilt for my mom:  This started out as a granny square quilt but has taken a different turn and will now be a patchwork.  Very simple.  With a couple of borders maybe.

2.  The granny square quilt will now be a throw for me.  I am excited to get this one together.  Maybe the top will be done by the weekend.

3.  A baby quilt that I hope to donate.  It started with a little charm pack that I got free when my favorite fabric store had an anniversary.  Lucky me!

4.  Another quilt for my sister.  This one will be much larger and it will be done in Essex linens that she chose and a pattern called Bears Paws.  Lovely.

Other sewing:
Well, I finished some pouches during my "pouch experiment".  I have a couple more to do.  One is for a swap that I can't show quite yet as it is on the way to its new home.  Hope she likes it!

And I've made some Christmas/Hostess gifts to get a head start on Christmas sewing.  I hope to be able to show these more for the Handcrafted Holiday Sew and Stitch Along over at Sew Much 2 Luv.

I think that is about it.  I'm off now to pull out a crochet project that I've been inspired to finish a.s.a.p.
What are you working on?  Head over to Freshly Pieced to post about it and check out the other link-ups!

Have a great night and God bless!

WiP Wednesday

Isn't Fall the perfect time of year?  I think so.  I've been busy sewing and doing Fall chores around the house and watching football with my family.  And thinking about Christmas.  Anyone else?

Here are a few of the projects I'm working on.  More about each as I finish them up!

Still making granny squares for a quilt.

Working on an idea with these leftover pretty little squares.

And working this but not having a lot of luck...

Oh, there's more but my 2.8 second photo shoot turned out blurry photos.  Go figure.

I'm linking up to WIP Wednesday over at Freshly Pieced this week!  Head over to see what everyone is up to these days!  And don't forget about is this weekend!

Last WIP Wednesday of Summer

In just a few days it will be September.  September!  Where did the summer go?  I mean, it is still hot, hot, hot here in Colorado with temperatures this week in the 90's but I've noticed a few of the neighborhood trees with yellow leaves and the evenings are pretty cool.  To me September marks the beginning of Autumn.    We are already in our second week of school and football season is here (Go Broncos!  Go Rams!)

And this will be what I consider, the last WIP Wednesday of the summer.  I'm glad to be back on track with some daily sewing and creating.

I've been able to play with some new fabrics and start a few new things.  And there are a couple of projects that I moved to the back burner but hope to get back out soon.

The quilt for my mom is coming along.  I have 15.5 blocks done and I just need 14 more.

These are pretty 2.5" strips that I cut into squares for a pouch project I'm working on.

This is a rag rug.  It is made from some old valances that were left here in our house when we moved in.  I briefly read the instructions from an old book and then went to it.  I'll have to find the book again to see if I'm doing it correctly.

And finally, I've decided on a project for a lovely stack of fabric that I've not had for long but has been calling to me to be used for something pretty!

That is quite a few projects but like I said, I've been able to sew each day so I have high hopes to get at least one or two of these done quite soon!  I'll be happy to be able to share something finished!

I pray you each are blessed and happy and have time to sew and create!

Weekend Sewing

"...the key to success is preparation."  Heidi said that on  a post regarding the Friday Night Sew In.  It is the truth!  I know from experience that having a project ready to go makes all the difference in how much I accomplish during this sewing time or any sewing time for that matter!

What I had in mind was a couple of pincushions.  I prepped fabric for a granny square and I had the parts already cut and mostly sewn up for another Buttercup pincushion.  The hand sewing/putting together actually took me some time on Saturday to finish but all in all, I consider it a successful night of sewing as both are now done!

For the Buttercup Pincushion I changed a couple of things up this time around.  Well, really I just omitted a step...I did not stitch around the turned leaves or petals.  I like how it looks on this one but in the future, I think I'll definitely add the stitching.

I just love that little strawberry print!  I placed it in a little cup that I bought at a garage sale with this very purpose in mind.  And it fit!

Also on my list for sewing was another granny square project and this one was easy, quick and fun!

Plus, I got to use up some very small scraps I've had around forever.  That was nice.

And then I found the perfect trim and button.  I don't have a picture of the before, but trust me, the trim and button make it much cuter!

That was it.  I finished the projects I had intended and it was a great time to relax and sew.  I'm eagerly awaiting another FNSI!

*Edited to add links to JAQS Made by Me Linky and Fabric Tuesday!  Lots of fun stuff over there.

Friday Night Sew In

Here we are toward the end of August already!  I surely can't be the only one who is wondering where the time is going?!  I was at my computer this morning getting inspired by some favorite blogs and I found that it is time for another Friday Night Sew In.  I signed up immediately!

Tonight I was blessed with a break in my routine in the form of a hubby who is able to shuttle a boy to football practice and pick up our daughter from school which in itself will save me about 4 hours of my evening!  Plus I won't have to make dinner...there is another hour or so.  What will I do with all this time?  Why, sew, of course!

But first I wanted to show you all what I've made recently.  I got a new book (which I love!) and honestly I've known from the first time I saw the cover that I would be making that same pincushion first.  The book is none other than Joanna Figeroa's With Fabric and Thread.  It has so much inspiration between the covers that once I delved into the pages I was not so sure what to make first.

In the end I started with the pincushion and it was so pretty and so easy that I just have to do it again!  I'll be making a couple of pincushions this evening I hope.  And I can't wait to get started!  I hope you all get some time to sew on the Friday evening!  God bless!
