Dilly Dally 2

Weekend sewing is so wonderful.  I accomplished the quilting and binding on this quilt all on Sunday.  And I'm so pleased with the outcome.  Dilly Dally 2 is finished!  I'm excited about that because now I can give it to the little girl it was intended for but I must admit I'm also excited because I now feel like I can start something else!

For now, though, I'm going to focus on this finish, be happy with it and take some learning away from the process.
I have not washed it yet so it does not have that crinkly, comfy-ness to it yet but it will soon.  Then it is off to Kay for her (very late) Christmas gift.  I hope she likes it and gets lots of warm, cozy snuggles with it!
I enjoyed making it!  Now to link up to {Sew} Modern Monday over at Canoe Ridge Creations and Fabric Tuesday over at QuiltStory.

Happy sewing and God Bless!

Pretty Crafty Home

Have you ever visited Sandra's Cherry Heart blog?  She has a wonderful online space and she recently posted a "follow along project" for making a pretty, crafty home and I joined.  There is a Flickr group and everything!
When I read the Pretty Crafty Home post I was pleasantly surprised to know that there are others out there in blogland that are striving to improve their homes with their handmade goodies.  That is what I would like to do. I no longer want to have things just to have them.  Things that do not improve a space or make it beautiful or serve a purpose should not have a place in my home.  As a matter of fact (and I hope I'm not the only one), I know of a few corners of my home that could use a complete overhaul from such useless stuff.

But, as I know myself all too well, I'm going to be starting small.  I've committed to making some small changes over the next few days this weekend.  I've made this weekend a time to make some (mental and written) notes about what I would like to do, what I can do and what I know I will not do and maybe I'll even complete a few things on my list!  There will be much changing this list to be sure but I'm keeping my goals do-able.  I've started taking inventory in my own space-my sewing/work room.  And just to get me started  on my journey I've done one (very) small project.
This is a little pincushion from a bag of goodies I bought at an estate sale last summer.  It was not my favorite item (even though it came with two cute little thimbles) but I kept it anyway.  The velvety top, as you can see is very worn and splotchy.  Why did I keep it?  Not sure but I was determined to fix it to my liking or get rid of it.
Well, I fixed it to my liking.  I took a piece of an old embroidered cloth that was torn and stained, cut a nice piece and recovered the top.  Now I like it much better.
So, for now at least, it has kept its place on my desk.  We'll see if it stays there.

I hope you have a wonderful, crafty weekend with lots of sewing!  God bless!

WIP Wednesday

It is Wednesday, my dear Blog Readers, and so, one of my favorite days of the week.  I love keeping track of my WiPs this way.  Thank you so much, Lee, for hosting this weekly inspiration-fest!
So, just to be clear about something.  I actually have a few more projects that may be unfinished but I do not list them here if I am not currently working on them.  I only consider a project a work-in-progress if I have actually made progress on it or am thinking about working on it.  There really are only a couple anyway (2 that I can think of) that I have started but I've not worked on for quite a long while.  Like this one:
I have not worked on this in months!  Hence, it does not belong on the list.

Now aren't you glad I clarified that?!  On to the list!

Quilts in progress:
*Dilly Dally no. 2 is basted and ready for quilting!
*FWQAL - I have not actually sewn this in a long time but...I have pulled out some new fabrics to use for it and I've gotten all the little templates organized.
*do.Good.Stitches - February is my month and I've got a plan and I've started working on the blocks.
*Quilt for Christy - Bought more fabric and she has chosen a pattern.  There is some cutting in my future!

Embroidery in progress:
*Baby Girl Sampler - This is something I still work on daily.  It is coming along but not as quickly as I would like.  Mostly because I make it up as I go along (like my blog name implies!).
*Valentine project:  I'll be starting the actual sewing on this as soon as I'm done with the big quilt mentioned above.

Crochet project:
*Ripple - I've added 2 more rows and I'm going now to start another.

Phew!  7 WiP's... That is more than I thought.  I'd better get busy!  How are your WiP's coming along?  Can't wait to see them!  Have a good day!  God Bless!

Rejoice always,  pray continually,  give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.  ~1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Quilt Love

Here it is!  I finished this quilt some time ago, I just did not get around to posting it.  I'm so happy with this little quilt! I think I will hang it up somewhere for a little while so I can see all of the little embroideries.
I did some very simple quilting as a frame around each of the embroidered squares.  Very simple.  And I quilted it in pink thread so it is quite visible.
I'm a little miffed at myself for not taking the time to do this by hand and I'm actually considering going back and adding some hand stitching.  Is that ok to do at this point?  I don't see why not.  I'm sure it is not traditional but hey, I'm not sure that I care about that!
By the way this is a quilt made from Clover and Violet's Embroidery 101 Stitch and Quilt Along.  This quilt along started back in May 2011 and finished up sometime in November I think.  I don't recall when I finished.
So there you have first big finish of 2012!  I'm very pleased with how it turned out...mostly thanks to the sweet little designs Jennie (of Clover and Violet) came up with!  I'll be linking this finish to {Sew} Modern Monday and Fabric Tuesday.  Thanks for stopping by!

What a wonderful night of sewing Friday was! I had forgotten that it was time for the Friday Night Sew In  but I did get signed up at the last minute.  I had already planned on sewing this weekend so the FNSI was a bonus!
I worked on the Dilly Dally no. 2.  I needed to add borders and also to piece the back.  I surprised myself by actually getting them both done.  Now it needs basting, quilting, binding, washing and delivery.  Then I will consider it complete.  Maybe by next weekend?....
Quilt Top
I realize I should have blogged about it on Saturday but I just was not up to it.  I was am fighting a cold and just did not want to sit at my computer or take photos.  So I'm late but still glad I got it done.  My Saturday was supposed to be spent doing some crafty, sewing things but instead I spent it with Kleenex and Ricola.
Very wrinkled Quilt Back
I did manage some sewing today.  I did get my January blocks done for do.Good.Stitches.  Naomi wanted stars of different sized and she gave us several to choose from.  I did a couple that were simple and I tried one with inset seams and it just did not turn out perfect but I will try it again...someday.

Today also I did manage photos of my Embroidery 101 quilt!  I'm so happy with it and I'll be glad to post about it soon.  Maybe tomorrow.  For the rest of the afternoon I'm going to go sit by the fireplace and sip hot tea.  Later its time for a new Downton Abbey if I can stay awake that long!

I hope you all have a great week!  More soon.  God bless!

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love;  according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions...  Psalms 51:1

WIP Wednesday

Like so many, I'm wondering where the time went between last WiP Wednesday and today!  It seems I got so little done!  And then there are some who just keep putting out beautiful projects, blocks, quilt tops without missing a do they do that?!  Linking up over at Freshly Pieced.  Head over and prepare to be inspired!

This week I found myself still working on old WiPs.  I even pulled out a ripple that I had quite forgotten was not finished.  So my list has grown and I have not even started anything new.  Here we go...

Quilts in progress:

Farmer's Wife - no progress.  Still trying to figure out how to catch up.

Dilly Dally 2 - no progress.  I'm still looking for border fabrics.
February quilt for do.Good.Stitches - Trying to formulate a color palette and design idea.
January blocks for do.Good - Still finishing those up.  Should be mailed this weekend.
Quilt for Christy - still in the fabric buying phase.  She's too busy to shop these days!

Embroidery projects in progress:
Baby girl sampler - I'm  making progress.  This is the one I work on daily.
New project - Making progress on the plans!

New (old) project:
Ripple - I've found new motivation and while I don't know how long it will take, I'm motivated to complete it!

I do still have a finished quilt to show you soon.  That was my first finish of 2012 and I'm excited to have something done!  Plus, once I get all of these older WiP's done I have so many that I want to start!  I so wanted to join the Scrap Along with Rachel but I just did not want to start something new just yet.  Maybe another quilt along will start up after I finish these.

Have a great day!  God Bless!

Pink Patchwork

Its time for {Sew} Modern Monday over at Canoe Ridge Creations.

I've been inspired by small projects this past week.  Wanted to make something nice, functional, sweet and definitely pink.  There was no question that I would use scraps and it would be a patchwork of neat little squares.

There was a moment when I thought I would make a table cover but even that would have been too big.  As it happens, I had the small notebook that I use for ideas sitting nearby and suddenly it seemed very naked.  All at once I knew the pink squares would become its cover.

Having been constantly inspired by the little patchwork and hand quilting of Amy and her various projects I decided to do some hand quilting here as well.  Is anyone not inspired by her work?   Her sense of style and color combination is fantastic and I just love all of the beautiful projects she makes!

The quilt up top is my latest finish of a large project but I still do not have good photos.  (Sad face)  I hope to get to that soon so I can add it to the Flickr group finally...maybe tomorrow.

Hope you all are having a great start to the week!  God bless!

WIP Wednesday

What a week!  The weather here in Colorado, though typical, is sometimes just plain crazy!  Yesterday was over 60 degrees and today it is so cold and snowing but I hear tomorrow will be back in the 50's.  At any rate, I love the snow and cold and it makes for a perfect day of sewing!  Or at least some actual sewing and some making plans to sew.   I did have one big finish this week, though!  The Clover and Violet Embroidery 101 quilt is finished!  I don't have pictures yet but will soon.  In the mean time it is off the WiP list.

I've still got plenty to keep working on for this week!

For quilt projects I only have the Dilly Dally no. 2 in the works.

I've also been working on my star blocks for the Peace circle of do.Good Stitches.  Naomi asked for stars of different kinds. I've done one but I'm not pleased with it.  The center is less than stellar and I think I will have another go at it to try to make a better one.  But I do love this particular block even if it does have inset seams.

I still have in the works an embroidery/quilting project but it is still in the planning stage.  I did pull out a project that I had really only thought of as an experiment.  I'm now trying to complete it.  I'm calling it a sampler but I'm not really sure it is one.

I have quite a ways to go with it but I like it so far.  I'll add her name and birth date and some other cute little things.

There is one other project in the works and my sister and I have begun purchasing fabric for it but I have not started it yet.  So, including the just mentioned quilt project I have only 3 WiPs.  And for embroidery I have 2 wips but one is only being planned.  So, I have 3 wips and 2 planned wips?

I'm going to link to WiP Wednesday over at Freshly Pieced.  Follow the links to see all the other WiPs!

Happy Wednesday!  God bless!

Happy Monday!

Today is the first {Sew} Modern Monday of the new year over at Canoe Ridge Creations!

I really wanted to start the year off by participating and also getting to be inspired by all of the wonderful creations that will be posted.  So, I'm re-posting about a quilt that I finished as a Christmas gift.  It was made with a layer cake of Dilly Dally fabric by Moda,, some Kona solids and a large check print from the Lisette fabric line at Joann's.

You can kinda see the large check that is the backing.  In the lower white squares I added some hand stitches flowers.  I also added the hand stitched flowers in the white strip along with some outline around the name which is raw edge appliqued.

It was finished in the nick of time!  Second one is coming soon!

Head over and see the other inspiring projects at Canoe Ridge Creations!  If you are stopping by from there...thanks for visiting!  I love to hear from you all!

Have a wonderful day!  God Bless you!

1st WIP Wednesday of the Year

And to think I almost missed it!  I really forgot all about it!  For shame...

I do have plenty of WIP's to share.  I'm still working on a couple of things from quite some time ago.  My goal is to have these done in the next couple of weeks.  I would really like to get started on some new projects!  Linking to Freshly Pieced at WIP Wednesday!

First up...I'm still trying to get done with the Clover and Violet Embroidery 101 quilt.  It is ready to be quilted but for some time I was not sure if I would hand quilt or machine quilt.  Machine has won and I hope to start the quilting this weekend.

I'm also trying to figure out how to best catch up with the Farmer's Wife QAL.  Any ideas?

I'm almost done with the blocks for do.Good.Stitches for December and January but I don't have photos yet.
I'm working on another quilt using the Dilly Dally fabric.  This one will be for my other niece.

I've made no progress on the two embroidery projects (Strawberry Tablecloth and A's Sampler) but I do have plans to start another embroidery!  Technically it is not a WIP as it is still in the planning stages.  I'll be using some of my Christmas goodies!

And that, I think, is it!  Not too bad from the stack I had just a few weeks ago!

I have big hopes for 2012 as far as sewing I'm sure we all do!  Best of luck in the new year with all of your projects!  Be well, God Bless!

Happy 2012!

Hello!  Happy New Year!  I don't know about you but I'm so thrilled with all the possibilities this new year holds!  I'm prayerfully hoping for this to be a great year with little drama, lots family time, lots of sewing time and blessings for each of you!

How were your holidays?  I hope they were wonderful!  Did you finish all of your items on your Christmas Sewing List?  I did not.  (Sad face.)  But I did finish a few items and I have a couple more almost complete so I'm still considering the list a success!

One of the most urgent on my list was to finally finish my quilt for do.Good.Stitches.  This is the quilt that I have had for months now and I'm so disappointed that it took so long and I have so many good excuses but that does not change the fact that I did not finish when I wanted to.  But I do have it done now, actually, it has been done for a couple of weeks I just did not get around to taking photos of it.

I'm very pleased with the quilt not so much with the picture of the quilt but oh, well!  As always the ladies in the Peace Circle did an excellent job and as I expected, I love the finished quilt!  What do you think?

The second one I have to show was a Christmas gift to my 5 year old niece, Olivia, whom I call Olive.

This one is made from a layer cake of Dilly Dally that I won from Moda.  The fabric is not a pattern or palette that I would have chosen but I'm glad I had it to work with.  I think the colors and print are perfect for a sweet, active, fun little girl like her!

I did some of the quilting on my sewing machine and added some little flowers and details around her name by hand in perle cotton.  That part took so long!  I'm glad I did it though because the black quilting adds so much to the blank spaces.  I'm happy with how it turned out and although I'm sure it was not her favorite gift of the day, I'm sure she will know how much I love her when she uses it!

I've got a couple of quilts still in the works which I hope to finish this week so I can start a new one for 2012!  Thanks for stopping by!  Have a blessed day!
