Leap Day WiP Wednesday

Happy Leap Day!  Isn't everyone excited to have an extra day on the calendar?  I know I am!  One more day to get stuff done and be with loved ones.  That is always a good thing in my book.  Today I am going to see my niece off to Afghanistan and any chance I get to see this girl is a good thing!

Now for the wip's!
Quilt projects:
*Christy's quilt - coming along very nicely.  I'm almost done with the quilting and I'll be doing the binding soon after!

*Scrap Jar Stars for do.Good Stitches - I've got most of the blocks in and I've been playing with ideas for putting this top together.
*FWQAL - No blocks this far.  I do have to find more fabrics as I'm running out of the scraps I've been using thus far.

Embroidery projects:
*Baby Girl Sampler - Is finished!  I'm not sure why I've been calling it a sampler as I'm not sure that it actually is a sampler.  I like it nonetheless.

I think I'm going to have it framed.  Maybe I can try doing this myself.  Has anyone tried to frame an embroidery on their own before?  I'd like to know how it was, if it is worth trying myself.
Crochet project:
King ripple - Also coming along well.  I think it will actually be done soon.  I'm not following a pattern so pretty much it will be done when I think I have enough rows.  I've several more to go still.
I still have plenty to work on as you can see but I'm making progress on each of these which is what counts, right?  And with the embroidery finished, I have more time to work on the others.  Plus, I think that this is the week to start something new!  I'm excited.  Now I have to figure out what that will be.  I'm going over to Lee's blog to see the other wip's and get some ideas for that new project!

Patchwork Birdie

I've been working to finish up a couple of wip's that I've had going on for some time now.  Namely a baby sampler embroidery for my newest niece and a twin sized quilt for my youngest sister.  Yesterday when I finally had some time to sew I looked at these two projects and just could not get going on either of them.  I often feel this way about a project I've been seeing too much of  and I need something to break up the process.  I needed an in-between project.
 We were in the midst of snow and gray skies yesterday so naturally I though of making a pretty, pink and pastel colored birdie.  She's a potholder complete with Insul-bright and crochet trim. 
This was a quick and fun little project that was just the break I needed.  Now that I've had this break I'm ready to get back to some wip's!

WiP Wednesday

Last week I took a bit of a break from posting about the sewing wips I have going on and instead I posted about another ongoing wip-the one where I tidy and organize my home.  This week is back to regular old, sewing wips!  I have gotten quite a bit done, I must say.  At least for me.

Quilts in progress:
*Christy's quilt - All the fabric is purchased.  Blocks are cut and pieced and pressed but need to be made into a quilt top.

*do.Good.Stitches Feb quilt - For this months quilt I asked the ladies of the Peace circle to use the tutorial from Amber at A Little Bit Biased and make 2 star blocks each in a specific color.  The blocks are coming in and I think this is going to be a great quilt!
*FWQAL - I've actually made some blocks!  I did 8 blocks over the weekend.  I'll be making more of these this week now that I'm back in the groove of it all.

Crochet in progress:
*King ripple - Still coming along.  I estimate I need to do about 15 more rows.  Gosh, that sound like alot!

Embroidery in progress:
*Baby girl sampler - So close to being done!  Just a few.more.stitches.
*Valentine's table topper - this got put to the side when Valentine's Day came and went and I still was not finished.  Not sure I will be working on this one any time soon.  Just being honest.

That is my list for this Wednesday.  I have managed to keep myself from starting anything new until I get at least one of these off my list...Quitting on the Valentine's table topper doesn't count in my book as off the list so, I must finish something soon!

PCH on WiP Wednesday

Well, my WiP list looks pretty much the same as it did last week.  But I'm still going to link up at Lee's WiP Wednesday because there is one big change!
I've been working on organizing the mess I call my work/sewing room.  This has been a huge work in progress this week.  I have hopes of having the bulk of it done so I can sew on Friday after work (FNSI!) which I will finish early in the day so I can get a big head start on a certain quilt top.  I've joined up with Sandra over at Cherry Heart in her Pretty Crafty Home venture.  I decided recently that the best place for me to start would be in my own space so I promptly got to work....making a bigger mess than there was before!
I did manage to get some organizing done but the whole room is not nearly finished.  Figuring out what to keep and what to discard was easy enough when I started with some small corners of the room and its overflowing contents.  I've always wanted the threads and buttons to be more organized but never had the will to actually do it.  Until now.  And before I post the before photo, please know that this is quite embarrassing.  Don't judge me.  Please.  My shelves were messy.  I admit it!   Here is what I did accomplish:
When all the mess was nice and neat a a few little deer moved into the cabinet to live on the {very} old mayonnaise jar of  buttons that used to be my Granny's.

 Now about the sewing...Not much has been done on that front as my machine is surrounded by a mess of papers and magazines and stuff. (Does anyone have a rule about how long to keep magazines?  Which ones?  How to store them?  I could use some help in this area.)  This, though, has freed up time to embroider and crochet.  The ripple has about 8 more rows of color.  The baby girl sampler is almost done!  Forward progress has been made!  Now I'm going to head over to Freshly Pieced to see what kind of sewing has been going on for others!  You should, too!

WIP Wednesday

Hello and welcome to another installment of guessed it!...WIP Wednesday!

How are your projects coming along?  Mine?  Not so good.  I've got lots of motivation, supplies, energy, enthusiasm...but no creativity.  I do not know where it has gone but I hope it returns soon!  Maybe it is all the snow?   I do have lots of projects going on that I could/should work on.  I'm going to make myself do just that this afternoon.  Yes.

Here is the WIP list I can work from:
~Christy's quilt - I've actually cut as much as I have and figured that 4 more fat quarters + border fabric will get the size she is looking for.
~FWQAL - Should this stay on the WIP list?  Not progress.  Unless you count inventory of my blocks and taking photos!

~Baby Girl Sampler is still coming along.  Just not as quickly as I'd hoped.
~Valentine Runner - Pieced and ready to be embroidered.

~Ripple - I've received the yarn in the mail yesterday.  I think this is what I'll work on today.  Yep.

That, my friends, is it.  There is nothing new (as I'd hoped) but at least the list is not as long as I thought.  Only 5 projects in the works.

Goal:  To have one of these projects done by next weeks WIP Wednesday inventory!  Can I hold myself to that?  We'll see!  I'm going to check out the progress of all the others posting WIP's over at Freshly Pieced!

{Blissful} Sweet Pea Pillow

I've never been good at coming up with names for any of my projects.  Most of my projects end up with names that have something to do with the fabric or the pattern.  This project was no different.  (Although I did change up the fabric name a bit.)  This little pillow was made using Bliss (by Bonnie and Camille) fabric and a pattern called Sweet Pea from the book Simplify which was written by the same Camille.  With just a few changes.  :)
This actually started off as a mini quilt kind of wall hanging.  Then I decided I really wanted to have something more usable.  So it ended up being a pillow cover.  My favorite part is the quilted flange.  I'm thinking I'll try another one of these and make it with the scalloped edge.  For this project I just wanted something quick with no real challenges so I chose not to tackle the scallop edge.  But I would like to in the future.
Also, I chose a ric-rac border instead of a bow across the middle.  That choice was mostly because I did not have a ribbon that I liked but I did have the ric-rac in my stash.  By the way, this is all from my stash.  I have been hording these scraps since I made this little quilt.  Now I just have a few more precious little bits and I'm trying to find a small project to use them up.
I couldn't resist taking a picture out in the snow!  It was so lovely!  Hopefully this will cure my itch for a little quick project because I have plenty of bigger ones to get back to!  I'm linking up to Clover and Violets stash project for the first time.
Plus I'll be linking up to {Sew} Modern Monday and Fabric Tuesday...go over and take a look at all of the beautiful creations!

Before I close this post I have to show a photo of the amazing amount of snow we got here in the Denver area in just about 24 hours!  It was a winter wonderland for a couple of we have to deal with the clean up.  There is a lot of shoveling to still do!

WIP Wednesday

Here it is, Wednesday, time to talk about the works in progress and what I really want to do is start something!  I've waited long enough, don't you think!?  Plus I finished a big quilt project last weekend!

Quilts in progress:
*Quilt for Christy - I'm going to start the cutting today.  Yay!
*FWQAL - Fabrics chosen for the next 3 blocks.  I may even sew them today.
*do.Good Stitches - I made my blocks and posted my February plan for the Peace circle.

Embroidery in progress:
*Baby girl sampler - still working on this every chance I get.  No new photos, though.
*Valentine project - I've kinda changed this one up a bit.  I think I'm going to make it into a table runner...

Crochet in progress:
*Ripple - I've used all the yarn I had which was 3 more rows and I'm now waiting on an order to come in.  Progress!
