2013 Review

Well, first off I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

Photo from December 2010
Can you believe that Christmas is already over and now we are in the last few hours of 2013??  What a quick year that was.  As I was looking back to do a review of projects from the past 12 months (as I've seen so many done today) I found that I really did not do as much sewing as I thought.  And, sadly, I have too many projects that are not finished.  While not being a huge fan of resolutions, I did decide to go ahead and make a list.  Just a few things that I would like to check off my sewing list in 2014.  I think it will help to have just a few goals as far as my creative endeavors go.

It will be a big plus for me that I finished my little sewing table project.  Remember the before?

Well, I managed to finish prettying up the table and making the sewing organizer for it!  I'm so pleased that my {little} space is just a bit prettier now.  I'm sure this will go a long way to positively impacting my sewing in the coming year!

So here's to a fruitful, creative 2014!  I'm ready to start making!  How about you?  Do you have big sewing plans for the new year?

One Project; Two WiP's

Happy {wip} Wednesday!  How is your holiday sewing getting on?  Since I did not do a lot of Christmas projects and I'm saving any big starts for after the 25th, well, there was time for a personal project.

Since we moved to California I do not have a dedicated room for sewing.  There is a closet right outside my bedroom that hold my supplies and my machine sits on a {very ugly} black table.

It really needed some help.  So it is getting a new knob, a coat of paint and a glass top.  Then there was the problem with the threads.  They are everywhere when I sew.

The easy part was selecting fabrics from my stash to make a cute little thread catcher.  This is the one I had in mind to make because it also had a little pincushion.  Then I went to Pinterest.  Big mistake.

The simple idea of a thread catcher + pincushion now has buttons and pockets and a mat for the sewing machine.  Yep.

The good news is the table has its first coat of paint, all I have left is the bindings to sew down by hand and the best part, this project (both parts) was totally free.  I'm so happy about that.

God Bless and enjoy the rest of the week!

Last Tags of 2013

Today is Monday and time for another round of tags for the 2013 Tag-A-Long with NanaCompany and Pretty By Hand.   Of course, their tags are amazing!

I made three once again.   This time inspiration came from Kristyne's stitched tags from last week.  I searched high and low for the little cross stitched Santa that I knew was hanging around somewhere and in the process I found the other two pieces as well.

I would estimate that these were done around 1994.  The text one was probably earlier.  Now they are finished and I don't have to wonder where I left them because they will be on my mini tree!

I think Santa is my favorite.  I have such a fondness for the black outline around Santa and the dashed red border.  These will be my last tags for 2013 and they have added so much cuteness to my little tree.  I'm glad I made them...and glad for the Tag-A-Long!

Have a great day!

'My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked on the humble estate of His servant.  For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name.  ~ Luke 1:47-49

Decidedly Therapeutic

Just a reminder...and a thank you!  Today is the last day to sign up for my little giveaway for SewMamaSew Giveaway day.  You can sign up here.  I will close the comments about 8pm Pacific.  I pick a winner by random  after that!  Thank you so much for all the entries!  Over 300!  I told my husband that I would be so glad if I just had more than 10 people enter.  This is wonderful!  Extra thanks to new followers on here and bloglovin' and Pinterest!  I did not expect that  :)  And now...

It's time for another finish (on Friday)!  I'm linking up with Crazy Mom Quilts for Finish it up Friday.  And can I just say that it must be wonderful to have so many finishes.  I think she did one each day this week!

In an attempt to make a few Christmas-y items using actual Christmas fabrics, I started these.  They did not actually turn into hot pads until about the 3rd day.  I started them first, as I said to use up some Christmas fabric, and second to have something to provide a break while I was writing a (huge) Philosophy paper.

So, I made a bunch.  I had two great decisive, altering moments during this week.  First, quilting really is therapeutic!  I've always believed this to be the case, however, my belief was reaffirmed in a major way while I was writing said paper.  I could take a break and actually calm down enough to move forward after a few minutes of sewing.  Second, I don't like Philosophy.  I really don't see any good use in it and I still don't get it.

I ended up making two sets and 2 extra hot pads.  These are large hot pads!  There is a pocket so you can put your hand in the back, which I did not photograph.  Mainly I wanted them to be large enough to accommodate a skillet on the counter.  And they are.

This set is my favorite.  I like the way the stripe fabric made kind of a funky star in the middle.  And there you have it.  My finish for the week!

And a gratuitous shot of the scraps.  I'm quite enamored with the little piles that I have at the end of a project.  I throw nothing away until I'm all finished.  What would philosophy have to say about that, I wonder?

Have a great weekend!  God bless you and happy sewing!

Christmas Prep

Happy Wednesday!  Half way through the week and I just realized Christmas is only 2 weeks away!  We have finally had some very chilly temperatures and even some frost in the mornings.  The warm air drifts in around afternoon time and warms things up nicely.  Time to rake up the leaves.  With the pups help.

The cooler temps have definitely helped me get going.  I've been bringing out some of my favorite Christmas pieces and I've been making a few little things, too.  I had to try NanaCompany's little mittens!  Hers were just adorable, of course!  And then came the 2013 Tag-A-Long and I love making that kind of little things.  I made a trio.  Not as cute as hers or Pretty by Hand's but I like them well enough.  Next set will be better!

And finally, the do.Good quilt from Sept.  I've showed this one before but now it is all trimmed up and washed.  I love it.  Peace circle ladies always make the nicest blocks to work with.  Thanks, ladies!

Enjoy the rest of your week and God Bless!

Christmas WiPs

Christmas is in full swing, isn't it?  I'm bringing out the Christmas decorations through this week but today is about getting some Christmas sewing done!  I'll be linking up to WiP Wednesday over at Freshly Pieced.

It promises to be an excellent day of sewing as we finally have some pretty cool temperatures here in CA so I've got the Christmas music playing on K-love and especially loving Cloverton's Christmas Hallelujah.  It is beautiful!

That's what my day has in store.  How is your Christmas sewing coming along?

Have a blessed day!
